About us
Welcome to the Microcomputing Society, your hub for all things microcomputing!
We’re a diverse community of hobbyists, students, and professionals dedicated to the architecture, history, and applications of microcomputers. From the nostalgia of early PCs and retro gaming, to the cutting-edge possibilities of modern microcontrollers and single-board computers like the Raspberry Pi and Arduino, we provide a platform for members to share knowledge, collaborate on projects, and grow their skills. Whether you’re a seasoned developer or just getting started, our society offers a welcoming environment for exploration and innovation.
A few things we’re great at
Our members’ projects are at the heart of our society. We’re constantly building, repairing, and innovating, and we want to show it off. Our showcases highlight the full lifecycle of a project, from the initial concept and code to the final, functional creation.

Hands-On Workshops
We demystify complex topics by providing hands-on workshops that help you master everything from basic circuitry to advanced programming.

Vintage Restoration
We’re dedicated to bringing vintage computers back to life, preserving the legacy of microcomputing for future generations.

Thrilling Competitions
Our regular competitions and challenges push members to innovate and solve problems, turning projects into a fun and rewarding sport.
Our Showcase &
Social Media
Don’t just hear about our passion for microcomputing—see it for yourself.
Visit our image portfolio to see what we really do. Our gallery is a visual journal of our work, from the meticulous restoration of vintage computers to the cutting-edge prototypes built in our workshops. Each photograph tells a story of collaboration, skill, and the thrill of bringing technology to life.
Collaborative Project Hub
The Microcomputing Society is a premier destination for tech enthusiasts on the island.
At our heart, we’re all about learning, building, and growing. We’re especially proud of our hands-on approach: from teaching new skills in engaging workshops and restoring vintage computers to running exciting competitions. But our most significant strength is our ability to connect our members with the wider community. Through our collaborative project hubs with the University of Malta and MCAST, we provide unique opportunities to work on real-world projects and contribute to the future of technology in Malta.
Services
There’s nothing quite like the thrill of bringing a classic computer back from the brink. Our restoration and repair projects are a cornerstone of the Microcomputing Society. We tackle everything from simple fixes to complete overhauls of vintage machines, creating a dynamic workshop environment where members share knowledge and celebrate every successful boot-up. This is where we pay homage to the pioneers of personal computing, learning directly from the hardware that shaped our world. Join us and discover the joy of seeing a retro computer flicker to life again, all while gaining practical skills that are just as relevant today.
Research & School visits
Our school visits are designed to be a captivating journey through the world of microcomputing. We don’t just talk about technology; we bring it to life. Through interactive demonstrations, students get to see firsthand the magic of restoring a vintage computer, understanding its inner workings and the history it represents. We also showcase the future of technology by letting them get hands-on with modern robots and single-board computers. These sessions give students a tangible experience, showing them how code and creativity can come together to build, innovate, and solve problems.
Exhibitions
Exhibitions are a cornerstone of our community outreach, serving as a platform to proudly display the passion, skill, and innovation of our members. At these events, we showcase a diverse range of projects, from meticulously restored vintage computers that tell the story of technology’s past, to cutting-edge builds that push the boundaries of modern microcomputing.
Equipment donations
A cornerstone of our work is the generous donation of equipment from individuals and organizations across Malta. We gratefully accept a wide range of devices, from vintage computers and components to modern hardware, giving these items a new purpose. Our skilled members meticulously evaluate, repair, and restore these donations, ensuring that they are either preserved for historical purposes, used in our hands-on workshops and competitions, or repurposed for our collaborative projects with entities like the University of Malta and MCAST. This practice not only supports our mission and projects but also helps to reduce e-waste and promote a culture of sustainability and resourcefulnness.
Image Gallery
A core part of our mission is to visually document and share our work. Our library of books, images, and photos serves as both an archive and a source of inspiration. We are constantly capturing high-quality photos of our members’ projects, from the intricate circuitry of a vintage computer to the final, functional result of a modern build. This visual record not only celebrates our achievements but also provides a valuable resource for learning and problem-solving. Furthermore, we maintain a collection of books and technical manuals, which are essential tools for our restoration work and a testament to the history of microcomputing. This combination of visual and written resources forms a comprehensive chronicle of our society’s journey and our commitment to preserving and innovating in the world of technology.
Gaming
We celebrate the rich history of gaming by restoring classic consoles and arcade machines, bringing the nostalgia of 8-bit and 16-bit eras back to life. Our members also dive into modern gaming by building custom PCs and retro gaming rigs, and even developing our own games. Whether you’re a fan of old-school classics or a modern-day e-sports enthusiast, our society provides a platform to connect with fellow gamers, share your passion, and celebrate the world of video games.
Community & Activities
In our commitment to fostering a vibrant and engaged community, we actively utilize our blog and interview series as key tools for connection. Our blog serves as a dynamic platform where members can share their insights, project updates, and tutorials, creating a rich repository of knowledge for everyone. We also feature interviews with seasoned members, industry professionals, and key figures from our collaborative partners
